A total of 5,034 people were evacuated from Jekendi village of the Chon-Alai district of the Osh region. This was reported by the press service of the Kyrgyz Ministry of Education and Culture on September 17th.
According to information from the Border Service given on September 17th at 2:20pm, the Tajik side has stopped artillery strikes on the positions of the Kyrgyz border guards in the Teshik-Tash, Karamyk, and Karool-Dobe villages of the Chon-Alai district.
Tajik strikes on the territory of the Chon-Alai district began on September 17th at around 12:30pm.
As a result of the shooting on the Kyrgyz-Tajik border, the number of injured has reached 121 people. The Kyrgyz Ministry of Health has not yet provided information on their condition.
So far, it is known that 24 Kyrgyz people have been killed.
Shooting on the border
Shooting on the Kyrgyz-Tajik border began on September 14th. Then, according to information given by the Kyrgyz Border Guard Service, shots were fired into the territory of Kyrgyzstan at three locations in the Batken region.
On September 15th, the Border Guard Service described the situation on the Kyrgyz-Tajik border as “relatively stable” and that night had passed quietly.
However, on September 16th, the Border Guard Service reported that the Tajik side had attacked military and civilian objects along all border areas. It is noted that the Tajik side used heavy military equipment. The Kyrgyz State Committee of National Security reported that Tajikistan intends to occupy territory in Kyrgyzstan.
Residents of border villages in the Batken district left their homes and went to safer areas. According to the Kyrgyz Ministry of Emergency, more than 136,000 people have been evacuated so far.
Meanwhile, activists organized a peaceful rally in front of the White House in Bishkek. Furthermore, humanitarian aid collection centers were opened in Bishkek and Osh, to support the people of Batken.
The special forces of Tajikistan and Kyrgyzstan blame each other for starting the armed conflict on the border.
